The MER also has a website www.mideastregion.org. The website contains a list of the MER Board, information regarding the regional fall educational conference, history of the MER, various nomination & application forms, and pertinent government affairs information. There are quick links to the President, President-Elect and Treasurer on the Home Page of the Website. There is also a “links” section to other websites of interest.
Communication to the MER Membership via group “blast” email has occurred regularly via the Membership Chair since 2007. Most MER Board communication occurs via email supplemented by Conference-Call type Board meetings in 2007 and 2008.
Practice Vision The WOCN Society sets the standard and is accepted as the “gold standard” for the management of patients with WOC conditions. The MER supports practice by having members who precept individuals in WOCNEPs. The MER also supports practice via the annual fall educational conference. The MER supports excellence in practice by offering an “excellence in writing” award and a “WOC nurse of the year” award. In addition, several additional awards (Shining Star, Professional Educator, Patient Educator, Manufacturer’s Rep and Lifetime Achievement) are also available to honor excellence in practice.
Education Vision The WOCN Society sets the standard and is recognized as the premier provider of education for best practice and optimal patient outcomes.
The MER supports WOC education by supporting scholarships. Funds are donated to the WOCN for WOCNEP scholarships annually. There are two scholarships available to MER members annually for Advanced Practice. The Jeff Bish scholarship (funds provided by Kurt Vetters) is administered through the MER. The MER also supports education by sponsoring an annual fall educational conference. Sites are rotated through the five states that comprise the MER. Two Regional Advanced Practice Scholarships and two Jeff Bish scholarships were awarded in 2007. The Michigan Regional Conference was attended by over 200 individuals.
Membership Vision Every WOC provider is a member of the WOCN Society.
The MER has two specific committees to support membership. The Membership Committee’s purpose is to promote membership in the MER. This includes communication with WOCNEPs to invite graduates to join the MER and maintaining an email list to allow for email “blast”communication with MER members. The Sunshine Committee is responsible for sending cards to MER members regarding important life events. This is reliant on communication with the committee by the membership.
The multiple activities, scholarships and awards provided by the MER are supported by Fundraising and by dues. Fundraising occurs during national and regional WOC conference and may include product sales, raffles and silent auctions. A portion of national WOCN dues is rebated to the MER when members indicate, when paying dues, that they belong to the MER.
