Find a Mentor - Be a Mentor
In Greek mythology, Mentor (sometimes Mentes) was the son of Alcumus and, in his old age, a friend of Odysscus. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

This is the source of the modern use of the word mentor: a trusted friend, counselor or teacher, usually a more experienced person. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Today, mentors provide their expertise to less experienced individuals in order to help them advance their careers, enhance their education, and build their networks. . . . . . . . . . . . .

Mid East Region is establishing a Mentor Program
The Mid-East Region WOCN is establishing a formal mentoring program.  We all, at some time, needed mentors to help us get where we wanted to be and help us become what we are today. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

If you are a professional wound, ostomy and/or continence nurse, you may be eligible to serve as a mentor.

If you are interested in serving as a potential mentor, please contact . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Are you a:
  • Graduate of accredited WOCNEP.
  • At least one year full-time clinical experience after graduation from WOCNEP.
  • Current certification in area serving as mentor.
As a mentor, you may also be asked to serve as a preceptor for a student from an accredited WOCNEP.  To do that, you need a documented case load in addition to the qualifications listed above.

Who needs mentoring?  Ask yourself the following:
  • Do you ever need ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

  • Do you think you'd like to learn more ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

  • Are you considering changing ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

  • Do you want to become an independent contractor/consultant?

If you need a mentor (or a potential preceptor), review the Mentor List and identify potential mentors based on your needs and their areas of expertise.  Obtain the potential mentor's information via the Member Directory on the Members Only section of the WOCN website.  The WOCNEP programs listed are those for whom the individual currently precepts.

The Mid-East Region only provides the information shared by members.  The Mid-East Region does not endorse the skills or expertise of any individual listed as a mentor.  The Mid-East Region is not liable for any actions or outcomes of the mentoring experience.
