My name is Shannon Smith.  I am currently a CWOCN at Riverview Hospital.  I have been certified since 2006, but have worked with wounds and ostomies since 2004.  I work with outpatients and inpatients, seeing all varieties of wounds/ and doing multiple treatments.  We have a busy schedule with an average of 15 to 20 patients a day.  I love what I do and learn something new everyday.  I have had great mentors along the way and appreciate all that other WOC’s have to offer.  I am active in the region and am currently trustee #4.  I have served in this position for one year and have learned so much about the business aspect on the regional and national level.  I am proud to say that during my tenor we have a full ballot for the upcoming election, which was great to see the interest of so many WOC’s in our region.  I am running for a two year term as secretary this year.  Thank you for considering me in this nomination.

Kathy Cisney Candidate for Trustee #2

I am Kathy Cisney. I graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Nursing with a BSN in 1978. This year I reached 32 years of professional nursing practice at the University of  Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington, KY. I began nursing on a medical-surgical floor moving to the septic intensive care unit after a year and a half. I then became a clinical nurse manager functioning in that role for nine years. I completed a graduate degree as a medical-surgical clinical nurse specialist from UK’s College of Nursing in 1990. I was working in the surgical intensive care when a position was posted for a Medical-Surgical Clinical Specialist with a Certification in Enterostomal Therapy. Today I am the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Advanced Practice Nurse Specialist having attended Cleveland Clinic Enterostomal Therapy program in 1992. Eighteen years have flown by as UK Chandler’s CWOCN. I was fortunate to be active at the National WOCN level as a member of the newly formed Education Committee in 2001 becoming the Education Chair and National WOCN Board Member 2002-2004. I became a Certified Pedorthist in 1998 as an adjunct profession to assist in the management of the diabetic neuropathic limb. By invitation, in 2004 I attended the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthestists: Orthotic and Pedorthic Management of the Neuropathic Foot Consensus Conference in LA. From this, I published a paper winning the MER Excellence in Writing award.

On a lighter side, I am single (divorced) without children except for three very spoiled felines. I have many long term friends and am blessed to have both parents living.

I am running for Trustee #2, second term, of the Mid East Region hoping to contribute as a leader in what is already a well established excellent WOCN region.

Sue Kohl Candidate for Trustee #2

During that time I have attended National and Regional Conferences volunteering as a room monitor.  In 2010 my partner and I presented a poster at National convention sponsored by Dermarite.  Last year I was honored with the Presidential Award from the Mideast Region.

Currently I am teaching nursing part time at Northwest State Community College.

Before this I practiced as a WOCN, CFCN in an out patient and in patient setting at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers in Montpelier, Bryan and Archbold, OH for six years until March of 2010.

Jeremy graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 2002 with his Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.  He began his nursing career at Central Baptist Hospital as a cardiac ICU nurse and practiced for 3 years in that position.  In 2003, Jeremy joined the WOC team at Central Baptist Hospital part time. In 2005, he pursued Wound, Ostomy, & Continence position full time and became the WOC coordinator.  In 2006 he graduated from the Emory University Wound, Ostomy, & Continence Nursing Education program and passed the WOCN certification exam that same year.  Currently, Jeremy is the acting primary investigator for SDTI research involving early utilization of non contact low frequency ultrasound for the treatment of SDTI.

Jeremy Honaker Candidate for Trustee #4

I am honored to be a nominee for trustee of the MidEast Region of the WOCN. WOC nursing as a specialty is a unique opportunity to make differences in the lives of our patients and our colleagues. As trustee I plan to continue making a positive impact in this very special area of nursing. As a 1990 graduate of Cleveland Clinic’s Rupert B. Turnbull WOC Nursing Education Program, I have had some wonderful and interesting career opportunities. This began as a full-time WOC nurse for Memorial Hospital in Fremont, Ohio. As the only WOC nurse in Sandusky County, Ohio, I cared for patients in the acute, ambulatory, home, and long term care settings with wound, ostomy, and continence care needs. In 2001, I began to look for other opportunities and decided to begin a private practice while I searched for my next career move. This included legal nurse consulting and clinical instructor for entry level nursing students through Lorain County Community College and Terra Community College. As a clinical instructor, I found joy in developing some basic wound, ostomy, and continence assessment skills in the students I taught. My interest in nursing education grew and I made the decision to complete an MSN specializing in education. I am now the current Assistant Director of Cleveland Clinic’s WOC Nurse Education Program. A large part of my time has been spent working with the Program Director to develop online curriculum for the newly launched Ann Goldstein online WOC Nurse Education Program. History does repeat itself at times; my daughter has made the decision to enter nursing and has started classes with a goal of achieving Registered Nurse licensure.
