Taking Steps…..Improving Outcomes….and Avoiding a Disconnect
By Kristin Hurt RN, BSN, CWOCN
Michigan Have you ever been on a diet by yourself, without a support friend and had a difficult time, with little to no success?? Have you found that the more you avoid your previous exercise routine the harder it gets to make yourself do it???
That is disconnect. If we distance ourselves from an activity; even one we previously enjoyed, the chance of continuing that activity and growing/improving are minimal.
Saturday 3/21/09 sixteen WOC Nurses set out to accomplish; steps, improved outcomes, and reconnect. These Nurses were from different facilities and practice settings but joined together for a day of exercise, improving pt outcomes, and friendship/reconnect.

Fantastic learning opportunities followed as we joined together for lunch, continued education and many more laughs. We closed the day challenging ourselves to think about the great European Cathedral Builders. One can not dismiss the time, energy and passion that went into building these cathedrals. Not one person in the group could tell you who built these cathedrals or how many participated in building. It could not be denied the value these catherdrals still hold. But we are moving forward together challenging our thoughts to think of ourselves as builders.
What are we building as a WOC Nurse? Do we have the passion and dedication to accomplish the build?
Are we building with the right attitude so as to not damage the plaster, paint or beauty of the building?
